Return to Parque Benito Juárez and Love Train

4 August 2012 at 8:25 a.m.

Once again, another photo from the early morning hours deep inside Parque Benito Juárez. Because it is deep inside Parque Benito Juárez, this is quite a private place. This is where the high school boys and girls go after school to explore each other. It is the only place where many can find any privacy. It would be cruel to take photographs of the place when they are there.

Hoops

I have often gone over to the park, Parque Benito Juárez, on Saturday to watch the young men play basketball. In fact when my friend Scott was here last fall, we took in a game together. What I did not know until a week ago Sunday is that the young women play there on Sunday. I am usually fully occupied with my various devotionals on Sundays of course.

The World As It Is

Even I get fatigued sometimes sitting around trying to arrange the details of a better human world in my mind. It is one thing to speak eloquently of the better world, the "City on the Hill." Politicians must become adept at this. In my lifetime Robert F. Kennedy was the best at it for my money. It is quite another to get the detail right.

Obviously, perfect social justice is impossible. Therefore, in a better world there is only less social injustice and that which remains is of a more benign sort. But what does that mean in practice?

Perhaps, for another example, we can greatly reduce infant mortality. But then at what age is it acceptable for more children to die, as some must? Eight? Twelve?

I always hit the wall rather quickly on this sort of thing. When that happens, I must get out and enjoy the world as it is. Often this involves a walk in the park, Parque Benito Juárez to be specific.

Morning Walk in May

The morning walk is quite pleasant right now. It stays cool until noon and then builds up to the hottest part of the day between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.

The guys from the city were trimming the trees in Plaza San Antonio just up the block this morning.
